Bobby and I started a combo, The HiLites, before we were Freshman...I was the humble rhythm guitarist, and Bobby was the  lead player and singer.  I was always so impressed with him.  He could hustle up bass players and drummers and he had such respect in the little combo world we were in.  By the time we were Juniors I had drifted off into folk music, but he was still rockin'.  I remember him calling one Sunday afternoon to say some kid from Overton wanted to get a band going with us....his name was Hank Williams, Jr., and I thought I'd rather just use my new driver's license and cruise with the girlfriend than mess around with some hillbilly.  I saw good ole Bobby just once some years later when I was playing music at some joint on Division, and was saddened when I heard of his death years ago.  He had a crucial impact on my whole adult life.
