After retiring from the Navy he worked at the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship. He also spent many years successfully running his own business, Cedar Grove Kennels, training Labrador retrievers. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. John was very proud of his children and grandchildren. John and his wife loved being outdoors and traveling together. He loved hunting with his son and sharing stories of working at Central Command.
