David Winningham January 23, 1947-August 19, 2022
David was born in Jackson, Tennessee to Pierce and Dorothy Winningham, the third of four children. He moved to Nashville, attended Battle Ground Academy and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1965. He received a degree from the University of Memphis, where he met his wife, Diane (Dunn).
Predeceasing David are his parents Pierce Winningham and Dorothy Elliston Winingham Fajardo, and his brother, Pierce Winningham, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diane; his son Jason Winningham and wife, Krista; his daughters Amy Winningham and Charlie Winningham; his eight grandchildren Eli, Jessie, Talitha, Colton, Reed, Izzie, Brooke, and Elliston (who loved their Gdaddy and David adored them); his brother Geoff Winningham of Houston and his sister Dorothy Winningham Grandstaff of Lebanon, Tennessee; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and scores of devoted friends.
After working many years in the apparel industry, David found his passion in the faith-based, not-for-profit sector. In 1998, David initially worked in fund development for Serge (formerly World Harvest Mission) and then Esperanza Health Care in Philadelphia before assuming the role of Executive Director. David and his colleagues testified before the United States Congress on the important role of faith-based health care.
David and Diane returned to Nashville in 2004 where he formed the Macedonia Group, a consulting firm for faith-based non-profits. In 2008, David became the CEO of Mercy Children’s Clinic in Franklin (now Mercy Community Healthcare) where he was privileged to meet with President Obama to discuss the importance of comprehensive, integrated healthcare for the uninsured. After “retiring” in 2015, David was blessed to work part-time for six years as a Chaplain for Adoration Hospice and founder and Administrator of Adoration Hospice Foundation.
David served on the Board of Directors of Serge and Harvest USA in Philadelphia and locally with the Tennessee Primary Care Association, Thriftsmart Stores, and The Refuge Center for Counseling. David was Elder Emeritus at Christ Community Church in Franklin where he and Diane attended.
